Taiwanese language and Mandarin

Nearly 30 years ago, I was in Taiwan. Taiwan was Japan’s colonial for 50 years, because of this, there were a lot of Taiwanese who could speak Japanese. Especially elderly person could speak Japanese very fluently.

Mr. Y who was my driver, he’s native language was Taiwanese language, second Japanese, the last Mandarin. He studied Mandarin after growing up, so he was not good at Mandarin. In those days, the influence of Japan’s colony still remained.
